Licence terms

Last updated: 5 October 2026

These terms cover buying and using a QualBuddy licence. QualBuddy is made by Contiager, based in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at hello@qualbuddy.com. The free trial has its own trial details.

Who sells the licence

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle’s buyer terms apply to the purchase itself; these terms cover the licence and the app.

What you buy

A QualBuddy 1 licence is a one-off payment, not a subscription. It lets one person use QualBuddy on up to two computers (Mac or Windows), signed in with the same account.

It covers every release numbered 0.x and 1.x, including future updates within version 1. New versions are downloaded from this website. A future QualBuddy 2, if there is one, is not included.

Price

A licence costs £79, including VAT, for buyers in the UK. Paddle’s checkout shows the final price for your country, with any tax or currency conversion, before you pay.

Refunds

You can have a full refund within 30 days of buying, for any reason. See our refund policy for how to ask. When a refund is approved the licence ends, and your projects stay on your computer.

Your licence and the internet

QualBuddy checks your licence with our account service whenever it can connect. Each successful check lets it work offline for up to 90 days. If a computer stays offline for longer, or a licence ends, QualBuddy still opens, plays, exports and backs up your existing work, and full access returns when a valid licence is checked again.

Using QualBuddy

You may use QualBuddy for your own research, teaching and professional work, including paid work. Please do not share, resell or transfer your licence or account, or try to get around the licence check. You can move the licence to a new computer by releasing an old one in Settings, under Account & trial.

Your research

Your work stays yours and stays on your computer. We do not receive your recordings, transcripts, notes or participant details. You are responsible for your backups and for using QualBuddy within your ethics approval and data management plan. Our privacy page explains what the account service stores.

Care and responsibility

We work to keep QualBuddy reliable, but automated transcription and analysis support can be wrong. Please check your transcripts and outputs: QualBuddy supports your judgement and does not replace it.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses, or for lost research where backups were not kept, and our total responsibility for a licence is limited to the price you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer or any liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending a licence

We may end a licence if these terms are seriously broken, for example if a licence is shared or resold. We will tell you why first, by email, and give you a chance to put it right where that is possible.

Changes and law

If we change these terms, the version in place when you bought your licence applies to it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protections the law where you live gives you.
